The Elegant Bachelors were birthed in the semi-rundown dorms of Indiana University when, after being asked if he would like to record a few songs, Taylor Peters politely said “I might like that, yes.” From there came the first endurable release by The Elegant Bachelors. Don’t ask us about anything before that because we are just as likely to spit in your eye as punch you if you do.
From there, the membership of The Elegant Bachelors has truly ebbed and flowed like the beautiful ocean upon which we all depend. While a majority of the recordings filtering out were of marginal quality and consisted solely of an untrained voice and a hamfisted acoustic guitar, one or two recordings existed of Taylor rocking it out with the drum stylings of one Michael Squeri. Somehow (to this day how exactly remains a mystery) the Elegant Bachelors were then booked for a show at what was then called Uncle Fester’s bar. In light of this, it became necessary for the Elegant Bachelors to make the shift from “band” to Band. The punctuation in that sentence really conveys all the meaning you’re going to get out of us. Suffice it to say that Michael Squeri, along with Jeffrey Mayes, became full time members.
While playing a string of shows around Bloomington, the Elegant Bachelors released a string of EPs and singles, got interested in string theory, began to string more and more women along etc. before finally building up to this year’s full length “Everything Is Fine.” How that piece was ever forced out of them is a mystery on the order of how they were booked for their first show; anĀ investigation of which would surely only end in tears.
Lately there have whispers from the trees regarding another full length.
